What is the different between ReLEX SMILE and SMILE Pro®?

SMILE Pro® is the latest advancement in laser eye surgery, offering a faster, more precise, and more comfortable experience than its predecessor, ReLEx SMILE. Utilizing the VisuMax 800 laser, SMILE Pro® corrects vision in just 8 seconds per eye, minimizing discomfort and potential complications. This bladeless procedure offers a quicker recovery and potentially better visual outcomes due to its increased precision.

What is the different between ReLEX SMILE and SMILE Pro®?
Key Improvements:

Speed - The VisuMax 800 laser creates the lenticule (the small lens-shaped piece of corneal tissue that's removed) in just 8 seconds per eye, compared to around 25 seconds with the older VisuMax 500 used for ReLEx SMILE. This shorter laser time minimizes the potential for eye movements during the procedure, enhancing precision.

Precision - SMILE Pro® utilizes more advanced laser technology, enabling more accurate corneal shaping. This translates to potentially better visual outcomes, especially for those with higher prescriptions or astigmatism.

Comfort - The faster procedure time and gentler laser application contribute to a more comfortable experience for the patient. Many individuals report feeling less pressure or discomfort during SMILE Pro® compared to ReLEx SMILE.

Safety - The reduced suction time and increased precision of SMILE Pro® may contribute to a lower risk of complications, such as suction loss or corneal ectasia (a rare condition where the cornea weakens and bulges outward).

Recovery - While both procedures offer fast visual recovery, SMILE Pro® may have a slight edge due to its speed and precision. Many patients report clearer vision sooner after SMILE Pro.

SMILE Pro® Treatment Process

Creating the Lenticule: The VisuMax 800 laser creates a tiny, lens-shaped piece of corneal tissue (the lenticule) within the cornea. This is done without creating a flap, as in traditional LASIK.

Removing the Lenticule: A small incision (2-4 mm) is made in the cornea, and the surgeon gently removes the lenticule.

Reshaping the Cornea: Removing the lenticule reshapes the cornea, correcting the refractive error and improving vision.

How to prepare for the complete eye examinationShow More
How to prepare for the complete eye examination
1
Before your preoperative examination, please ensure: Soft contact lenses are removed 3 days prior to your appointment. Hard contact lenses are removed 7 days prior to your appointment.
2
Due to the blurry vision that results after the dilatation of the eyes, it is recommended that the patient be accompanied by a relative or close friend. Dilation because the eyes to become extremely light sensitive and the patient might not be able to drive a vehicle after dilating the pupil.
3
Bring a pair of sun glasses is recommended.

* The reason is that wearing contacts lenses, for a long time, could change the curvature of the cornea, therefore the refraction have changed as well. Not wearing contact lens, for a while, will cause the shape and the curvature of eye to revert back to its natural shape, enabling us to get more precise data of the cornea.
